"Cotton Field"

Black men and women work on a cotton plantation in Aiken, South Carolina. This stereograph was made by photographer James A. Palmer for his series "Characteristic southern scenes", which consists mainly of stereographs focused on Black families and laborers during the Reconstruction Era. Information on the series is printed on the back, including Palmer's name for this photograph, "Cotton Field".
